Sounds like you did well. I have an 03 that I bought new. It's been put up winters so it is rust free. While it's always had trail use. it's in nice shape, which I can tell you, can be a disadvantage on some trails.
Don't make it "too pretty" if you want to have a rig for some of the rougher trails.

Just my opinion, but to me, if it is rust free you are golden.
Miles, dings, dents, rips, and wrinkles are of no consequence on a Jeep. Rust is the only enemy.

I agree.  I looked for a long time for one without significant rust.  All the rest of the stuff is easy to take care of.  In the spring I need to paint the hood (peeled like all the black ones do), but that's about it.  I hadn't owned a Jeep since my 96 XJ.

1998 4.0, 5spd TJ Sahara named "Betty" with about 185k miles.  Got the usual dings, dents, and scratches but pretty much rust-free.  Not sure what the mild lift that it has on it is, and running 32's with no spacers.  Rebuilt the heater box and ac, replaced the steering box and got rid of most of the "engineering" done by the prior owner.  Betty's tucked in for the winter while I offer up my Sorento to the salt gods.  Looking forward to the spring to see what she can do.
