Common problem ... My 2000 did the same or would sometimes feed the left blinker circuit ... If you wiggle the blinker switch arm while it is happening does it operate normally until the next time? ... Mine was the multifunction switch (I won't say what I normally call it) LOL
What could POSSIBLY go wrong?

I'd guess there's bad connection at the plug. Possibly the ground is toast.
I'd start testing voltages at the bulb and work my way towards the fuse box.
Don't know what that sound is?  Keep driving. She'll let you know in a minute if it's going to be an issue...

It may be a short. It may also be a bad ground. I would pull the lense off of the left rear and look at the metal fixture that holds the bulb in. That may be corroded and causing your bad ground

i owe a 2000 Jeep wrangler. when i put my left blinker on and foot on the brake, the blinker will pause and stop, when i let my foot off the brake, the blinker countinues to blink. i havnt checked anything on it yet, my guess would be a short maybe? any help is appriciated! thank you!
